The most frequently used base metals for manufacture of medals are cupro-zinc alloys, tombak, brass, MS 80, nordic gold and anticoro.
A number of techniques of combining metals is also used, such as inlaying, plating, electroplating (silver- and gold-plating), as well as patination of surfaces. The Czech Mint uses various base metals to strike occasional medals, replicas of old coins and tokens.
Currently available Czech Mint’s base metal medal collection can be viewed on our e-shop.
